Workforce Excellence & Organizational Intervention

NCWWI is developing and implementing Workforce Excellence Projects, which are proactive, strategic, collaborative, and sustainable initiatives designed to address critical workforce challenges through implementation of leadership academies for supervisors and managers and organizational interventions. 

Three child welfare jurisdictions have been selected for NCWWI's Workforce Excellence (WE) intervention. WE jurisdictions identify change initiatives to address critical workforce issues, and partner with NCWWI to address them by engaging in a Comprehensive Organizational Health Assessment (COHA), solution-focused design teams, and leadership academies for supervisors and middle managers. The selected jurisdictions include: 

San Francisco, CA

  • Change Initiative: Strengthening Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to Support Data-driven Decision-making. 
  • Locations: A combination of public and private child welfare sites  - 3 San Francisco County Human Service Agency sites and 1 Seneca Family of Agencies.
  • Jurisdiction Leaders: Sylvia Deporto, Deputy Director, San Francisco County Human Service Agency, Family & Children's Services, and Mark Nickell, Division Director, Seneca Family of Agencies.

State of Missouri

  • Change Initiative: Enhancing Workforce Effectiveness through Stronger Preparation and Support
  • Locations: 4 public child welfare sites across the state. 
  • Jurisdiction Leader: Tim Decker, Director, Missouri Children's Division.

State of Indiana

  • Change Initiative: Improving Staff Retention
  • Locations: 4 public child welfare sites across the state. 
  • Jurisdiction Leader: Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura, State Director, Indiana Department of Child Services.
