The continuing fight for racial equity and social justice has increased focus on racial inequities in the criminal justice system and prompted discussion about the relationship between criminal justice and addiction treatment. Mandating individuals to treatment has led to dependency between the treatment and the criminal justice systems. Has this relationship caused disparate negative impacts on Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC)?
