Targeting apathy with a music-based intervention in PD
HOSTED BY: Music Care by Room 217
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is known as a motor disorder for the more overt clinical motor symptoms that accompany diagnosis. There are also many non-motor symptoms that further aggravate health outcomes for people with PD. A particularly prevalent non-motor symptom is apathy, or a loss of motivation/emotional responses toward initiating activities (eg. getting out of bed, going for a walk), and it is associated with a decline in quality of life and treatment resistance, independent from the effects of depression or anhedonia. This talk will discuss an ongoing study that aims to understand how music-based interventions can potentially target apathy in PD.
