Through Rose-Colored Glasses: When Cultural Competency Isn’t Enough

This webinar is hosted by National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors

The story we hold as true impacts the way we interact in the world. In an increasingly diverse American landscape, counselors are challenged to understand the needs of clients often without having a foundation of cultural humility necessary to create alliances and build trust. This workshop will prompt participants to explore their own stories and the underlying biases that unintentionally hinder both personal and professional relationships. Workshop participants will begin to examine subtle generalizations about race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, and other differences, including addiction identification and weight biases. Together, we will learn to appreciate our personal stories and model self-reflection for clients who are just beginning to understand their own.
